Things on the web that I like.
Software
Software that I am excited about in some capacity.
Software Development
- Semantic Versioning Will Not Save You — Why semantic versioning is overrated and why you should not trust it when specifying dependencies.
- GitFlow considered harmful — Perhaps a bit dated, since GitFlow does not appear to be that popular these days. This probably explains why.
- Server Setup Basics — What to do on pretty much any new Linux server.
Software development videos that I watch every once in a while:
- Object-Oriented Programming is Bad by Brian Will.
- Agile is Dead — Presentation by Dave Thomas, one of the authors of the The Manifesto for Agile Software Development, about what has gone wrong with “Agile”.
- Rust Talks by No Boilerplate — Playlist of fantastic Rust programming language propaganda.
- How I program C by Eskil Steenberg — I don’t program much in C, but this video has some interesting ideas about programming in general, such as why long functions perhaps aren’t that bad after all (the logic is easier to reason about if you don’t need to jump between numerous tiny functions).
Retro/Classic/Indie/Small Web
- Wiby — Search engine for the classic web with a nice “surprise” feature.
- The Forest — Similar to Wiby’s surprise, but with different sites.
Some articles reminiscing about the good old days of the web, with suggestions on how to get some of it back:
- The Web We’ve (Never) Lost — An excellent entrance into a rabbit hole.
